Between Yousef & I, “The Look”

Yousef, a three-year old child from Gaza, who lost his entire family after an Israeli airstrike on their house.

This white little angel was deeply wounded and remained in the ICU for three days.

When he woke up, I came to check on him and thankfully his condition was getting better.

Then I asked him: How are you, Youssef?

He looked at me with a look that I will never forget as long as I am alive. A look that was stronger than me and much tougher than everything that was happening. A look full of challenge, courage and patience. Yes, that what I saw in his small eyes.

After that, he answered in a whispered voice laced with the innocence of the universe: “Alhamdulillah” which means “Praise be to God,”.

Here, I found how much weak we are in front of this HERO.

I felt that this child possessed faith that the whole universe did not. You, little man, how are you so strong like that in your weakest moment?

It’s FAITH my friend, which Yousef had.

Yousef left the hospital without his mother, without his father, without his siblings, and without his home, room and toys. He left; and left me with that look that will haunt me as long as I live. May Allah protect you, little angel.

May your life be full of love, hope, and peace.
